Milford boys basketball toughs out two wins

The Spartans held off the Cavaliers to help get them into the Division II tourney. Milford led by one at halftime but then expanded the lead to 49-36 after three periods. Chuck Urda led the way for the Spartans with 14 points while Ryon Constable and Brady Hansen added 11.
MILFORD 53, HANOVER 48 (OT)
The Spartans battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit thanks to 15 points each from Bernard Glusac and Chuck Urda, plus 13 from Ryon Constable.
Milford led 27-25 after three and survived Hanover’s Kevin Pillsbury going off for 17 of his game-high 22 points in the final frame and a half.
SOUHEGAN 66, LACONIA 61
The Sabers trailed most of the game, once by as many as 10, but rallied as Nate Colby led the way with 16 points whie Joe Bernasconi and John McBride’s 15 points each offset 27 by Laconia’s Kaylen Roberts. The Sabers finally grabbed the lead down the stretch thanks to four free throws by McBride

Kate Canavan collected 21 points in the Sabers season finale. Sabra Biddle added six points in the loss. Souhegan finishes the season at 4-13.

The host Spartans trailed just 12-9 after 1 and 28-20 at the half, but Hollis Brookline controlled the second half 32-21 to pull away in this Division II battle of playoff-bound teams.
The Cavaliers were led by Elisabeth Stapelfeld and Cheyenne Colbert, who each scored 24 points for 48 of HB’s 62.
For Milford, freshman Lulu Maguire completed an impressive regular season with 14 more points to give her 202 in 17 games. Junior captain Kate Hansen dominated the boards and added seven points, and both Bailey Johnson and Claire Cote had six points each.
Addie Hopkins and Ellianna Nassy were defensive standouts for Milford.
CON VAL 43, SOUHEGAN 35
Caitlin Cooper had eight points to lead the Sabers, followed by Kira Healey with seven and Phoebe Faucher with six.

The Sabers put up a great battle, leading 25-20 at the half, but the Cavaliers got a super night from Cheyenne Colbert, who had 23 points and 21 rebounds – season highs for both.
Also for the Cavs, Elisabeth Stapelfeld had 13 points and seven rebounds. The Sabers got 17 points from Kate Canavan, 10 by Sabra Biddle and seven by Caitlin Cooper.

MILFORD TAKES
ONE OF THREE
The Spartans went 1-2 in their dual meet on Saturday. Milford defeated Pelham 42-16, and then lost to Concord 12-46 and Windham 22-49. Ben Kilgore and Danny DeBernardo went undefeated on the day.
MILFORD WINS TWO
The Spartans defeated Souhegan 46-15. Winners for Milford were: Kyle LaJoie, Travis Rolon, Matt Ebert, Evan O’Connell, Noah Kittredge, Nate Post, Greg Gagnon, Ben Kilgore and Danny Debernardo.
The Spartans also got a victory against Portsmouth 63-4. Winners in that meet were: LaJoie, Ebert, O’Connell, Ethan O’Connor, Kittredge, Gagnon, Kilgore and Debernardo.
TRACK
The indoor track season was capped by Merrimack’s hosting of a relay event at the Hampshire Dome with several schools, most of them local, competing.
Souhegan’s foursome of Tony Garrant, Jace Henderson, Carson Behn and Cole Henderson captured the 4Ö50 in 27.92 seconds.
Souhegan’s Wil Jacques took the high jump at 6-2 and also won the shot put at 50-5.5.
