Anton ‘Kirk’ Alexander Streitmater
Anton “Kirk” Alexander Streitmater, age 90, passed away on Tuesday December 10, 2024 in Concord, New Hampshire. He was born in Billerica, Massachusetts to Anton and Mary Streitmater. Kirk was known for mischief in his younger years which put him under the watchful eye of the Catholic sisters. He joined the US Marine Corps at the age of 17. Semper Fi.
In 1961 he married Annabelle Costello and together they had three children after moving to Londonderry, New Hampshire. Over the course of his life, Kirk held many career positions that included iron worker, antique shop owner and substance abuse counselor for the Veteran’s Administration–a professional position he served in for 20 years before his retirement in 1997.
Kirk was an avid reader and despite not completing high school, went onto earn his GED and graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Human Science in 1982.
Kirk was a kind man who treasured and celebrated his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and former wife, Anne Streitmater and his counseling partner (and fellow “mischief” maker), Kevin Kelly. He is survived by sister Emily Howser and his three children: daughter Karen (Phil) Johnson parents to Andrew Johnson, Cameron Johnson and Audrey Johnson, son Kirk (Mary) Streitmater parents to Alex (Mandy) Streitmater and Lauren Streitmater and also grandparents to Percy Streitmater and Jax Streitmater and daughter Kim Streitmater parent to Jessica (Mike) Rayno, Derek Stone and Kaden Stone.
Kirk’s family would like to thank the staff at the Veteran’s Home in Tilton NH and Concord Hospital for the excellent, compassionate care they provided.
