Eleanor ‘Elle’ Ann Walton
Eleanor “Elle” Ann Walton, of Durham, previously of Amherst, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. She was 93 years old.
Born on January 22, 1931, in Syracuse, NY, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Edwin and Eleanor (Schmelzle) Nottingham. Raised and educated in Toledo, OH, Elle attended Thomas A. Devilbiss High School and graduated in 1949. She met and married Bill in March of 1952. Elle & Bill were skiers in their younger years at Pats Peak Ski Area and members of Jasper Valley Swim & Tennis club and made many close friends there. Elle was famous amongst her friends and family for her many excursions to shopping meccas around New England. Later in life Elle used her passion for shopping and worked in a boutique clothing store. She was a die-hard NE Patriots fan, and a pop culture maven -always up with the latest trends. She loved animals and enjoyed her own dogs and well as her grand dog’s, family, and friends.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Lissa Merrill of Dover, William E. Walton and his wife Amy (O’Sullivan) of Newburyport, MA, and Sarah Benson and husband Scott of New Castle. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeff Merrill and his wife Rachel (Buchinger), Leigh Perret, and husband Lindsay, Liam Walton, and Kieran Walton, as well as four great-grandchildren, Charlie, Alex, Seby, and Ace. In addition to her parents, Eleanor is predeceased by her husband, William L. Walton, and her brother, Richard S. Nottingham.
