David A. Waris, 82, longtime resident of Amherst, NH died on August 24, 2023 at the Crestwood Nursing Center, Milford, after a period of declining health.

He was born on March 11, 1941 in Fitchburg, MA a son of the late Kalervo and Eva (Blomsted) Waris.

David was raised and educated in Lunenburg, MA and graduated from Lunenburg High School class of 1959. Following high school, David entered the United States Coast Guard where he faithfully served until, he was Honorably Discharged in 1963. He married Carol (Gross) in 1961. They settled in Amherst in 1969 into their long-term home to raise their family. David worked for many years at IBM following which he and Carol ran their own antique business.

He enjoyed traveling to antique shows and flea markets all over the country. He also loved spending time with his family and watching sports on TV.

In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his son, David A. Waris Jr. just last year and his brother Donald Waris in 1975.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carol of Amherst, NH, daughter Katherine and husband Donn Hughes of Naperville, IL, son Daniel and wife Barbara Waris of Amherst, NH and his daughter-in-law, Tracie Waris of Fitzwilliam, NH, grandchildren; Christopher and wife Nicole Hughes, Kirstin and husband Christopher McDowell, Hannah Waris, Madeline Waris, Allison Waris, Zachary Waris and Abigail Waris, great-grandchildren; Graham McDowell, Carys McDowell and twins Kinsley and Logan Hughes.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH 03055. A short funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM in the funeral home Chapel with Rev. Al Hoyt officiating. Burial will be private for the family.
