Robert Richard Portz

Robert Richard Portz, known to his friends as Bob, passed away at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire at the age of 83 on April 28, 2023.

Bob was born to Joseph and Elizabeth Portz in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on December 31, 1939, on the last day of the last month of the last year of the decade. He graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1957 and received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Wyoming in 1971. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 and was stationed in Germany with the 2nd Missile Battalion, 81st Artillery. Among other things, he worked as a paperboy, lifeguard, bartender, and high school mathematics teacher. But he was most known for his passion for golf, dedication to his yard, and nomadic spirit, having traveled extensively with his wife and friends by RV and by boat. Above all, Bob was defined by his warmth, gentleness, and indomitable sense of humor.

When Bob passed, he was living in Milford, New Hampshire, where he had resided for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by his brother Ronald Portz in 2017 and is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Jean Portz, his sister Eloise Toth, his daughter Natalie Jo Flamburis, his son-in-law David Flamburis, and his grandchildren Paul, Dale, and Jackson Flamburis.

A private gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, please honor Bob by enjoying a hearty meal with your loved ones.
