Helene Charron
MILFORD – Helene Charron, 97 born May 10,1923 passed away on Saturday December 12.
Though contracting Covid-19 a week earlier, she died of natural causes.
She was born near Frankfurt, Germany to a family of five sisters.
She met her husband, Maynard walking down the street. He was an American GI and despite the language barrier, they dated and two years later were married.
They moved to Maynards hometown of Amherst, NH in 1952 and had two children.
Helene quickly learned English and got a job at Hitchiner Manufacturing. She was a standout employee, being singled out by John Morrison, the founder of the company. She was very proud to become an American citizen in the late 1950’s.
She enjoyed hosting large family parties around the backyard swimming pool and loved the week long visits from her grandchildren, where they were spoiled to no end.
Helene was confident, hard working and never bashful to talk with anyone. She was kind to all and had an internal sense of decency and respect for people. Living through WW 2 and having her home bombed and losing a sister to the war, gave her a perspective on life few have experienced.
Helene & Maynard began retirement at Indianwood in Indiantown, FL in 1988. Helene loved it there. She had worked hard her whole life and now she felt like she was on a cruise ship! She and Maynard kept busy in many social and athletic activities and Helene volunteered with several committees. She was the self appointed Librarian at Indianwood and thought it best to organize all the books not by author but by color. She had a hard time living that one down.
Helene was still playing tennis until she was 90 and beating ladies 15 years younger.
When Maynard passed away in 2010 she soon thereafter moved into her daughter’s home in Milford. She contributed greatly doing housework and taking care of many exotic cats and one blind dog.
Helene enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, reading mysteries and in earlier years tennis, swimming and bowling. She was a standout gymnast as a young girl in Germany.
She is survived by her son Maynard Georg Charron and daughter- in- law Jane of Hollis Center, ME. and daughter Cynthia Aldous of Milford.
Also grandchildren Nicholas Charron and wife Jeannette of Gothenborg , Sweden, Alex Charron of Malden MA., Peter Charron and wife Gina of Bellingham, WA, and Adam Hamilton of Derry, NH and four great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held in late summer, 2021.
The family would like to thank all the hard working and kind staff at the Elms Nursing home in Milford where Helene lived for the past two years
