Elizabeth C. Boynton
EXETER, NH – Elizabeth C. Boynton (Ely) passed away on January 19, 2015 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Ely was born June 3, 1929 in Washington DC, the daughter of Ralph and Frances (Drew) Curtin. After graduating from Washington’s Central High, she enrolled at Tufts College in Medford, Massachusetts.
At Tufts she met many dear and lifelong friends as well as Kenneth G. Boynton, the love of her life. Ken and Ely were married in 1951, and settled on Long Island, where their first two children were born. Eventually moving to Milford, N.H., Ken and Ely welcomed two more children to the family.
While raising her children, Ely operated her own home-based interior decorating business. She specialized in creating beautiful hand-made slip-covers for clients’ furniture. Throughout these busy years, Ely pursued a hobby in watercolor painting.
Ken and Ely moved to Wilton, New Hampshire after their children were successfully sent off into the world. There, Ely found more time to devote to her passion for art. She became an accomplished watercolorist and was proud to be accepted as a member of the New Hampshire Art Association.
After Ken’s passing in 1986, Ely moved to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where she accelerated her passion for art. She studied with many of the region’s well known artists and enjoyed traveling with the Rockport Art Association to beautiful painting destinations around the world including Greece, France, Spain, Italy and many more.
In 2010, Ely moved to Riverwoods in Exeter, New Hampshire. She made many friends there and continued with her art. She enjoyed weekly matches of bridge, and true to her competitive spirit, she was thrilled when she won!
Ely will be forever cherished and fondly remembered by her daughter, Amy E. Boynton of Weymouth, Massachusetts; her son David R. Boynton of Salt Lake City, Utah, his wife Jeanie and his daughter Jillian Boynton of Manchester, N.H.; her son Jeffrey D. Boynton of Newington, N.H., his wife Jill, and their sons Samuel and Maxwell; and her son Stephen S. Boynton of Andover, MA, his wife Maureen, their daughter Kenzie and son Drew, as well as many new and lifelong friends.
Ely’s family invites her friends to join us in a celebration of her life on February 8 at the Wentworth By The Sea Country Club, 60 Wentworth Road, Rye, N.H. from 1 pm to 4 pm. Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH is assisting the family with the arrangements.
