Marc Jay Sanford
Marc Jay Sanford, age 49, was tragically killed in Eugene, Oregon on November 15th 2015, by a hit and run driver as he and his wife, Lorre, were walking on Willamette Street.
Born April 11th, 1966 in Nashua, NH, to Anthony and Helen Sanford, he attended Nashua schools, graduating Class of 1984, then attended UNH graduating with a degree in English Literature. After graduating college, Marc spent time in Dover, NH, then traveled west in the 1990s; first living in Santa Monica, moved up the coast to Seattle, then settled in Portland, OR. He lived in Santiago, Chile for several months, starting a coffee shop for a Seattle-based investor, during that time he also traveled extensively around Chili and Peru.
After moving back to Portland, Marc pursued a new passion – custom carpentry and woodworking and opened his own business, Marc Jay Sanford Construction. He is very well respected in his field and was a bit of a perfectionist; his custom work is beautiful. September 29th, 2012, he married the love of his life, Lorre Camenzind, in Portland, OR; she was severely injured in the incident, but is expected to fully recover.
Marc enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, loved to travel and did so whenever he had the opportunity. He was passionate about life, he always had a smile and a hug for everyone and his witty sense of humor was contagious. Marc excelled at building relationships by being truly compassionate. He was genuinely loving and kind and had the gift of making everyone he met feel at ease; he brought out the best in people.
He is especially remembered for the way he treated everyone he met and always the first to put others at ease, to lend a helping hand or to make you smile with one of his witty comebacks. When you needed to talk, Marc was the first person who came to mind, he listened and cared. He is sorely missed by hundreds of friends and family all over the world.
Survivors include his wife Lorre Sanford of Portland, OR; his 3 stepchildren Willow, Sedge and Bryony also of Portland; his parents Anthony and Helen Sanford of Nashua, NH; his brother Eric Sanford of Chelmsford, MA; his brother Zachary Sanford of Nashua, NH; and his nieces Isabella Sanford and Charlotte Sanford of Nashua, NH; plus several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial will be held at 10:30 AM December 19th, at Christ The King Lutheran Church at 3 Lutheran Drive in Nashua, NH, relatives and friends are welcome; following the service there will be a potluck lunch at the church. A celebration of life is being planned for April 2016 when his wife, Lorre, will be able to travel from the west coast and for those that are unable to attend at this time. We are raising money to assist in his wife’s medical expenses, our family’s travel expenses from coast to coast and to build a memorial in Portland and/or Nashua, NH. Donations can be received online at https://www.gofundme.com/marc sanford or by mail to Helen Sanford 30 Paul Ave, Nashua, NH.
Thank you to all the friends, and family, who have offered their love and support during this most difficult time; you will never know how much this has helped. We could not have got through this without each and every one of you.
