Eleven Hollis, Brookline students honored
Eleven Hollis and Brookline students were recently honored as some of the brightest young students in the nation at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children sponsored by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.
The center honored these academically gifted students who were participants in the 2011 CTY Talent Search for their performance on rigorous, above-grade-level tests given to academically talented second- through eighth-grade students.
During the Talent Search, advanced young learners take above-grade level tests designed for older students as a means of gaining insight into their abilities.
High Honors recipients from Hollis and Brookline for the SAT were: Katherine Cerato, Errica Cheng, Aaron Hill, Kyle Hsu, Trai Jimeno, Aaron Lawrence, Ian McNabb and Alex Meagher. Award recipient for the grades 2-6 STB was Trai Jimeno. High Honors recipients for the SAT/ACT were Peter Albrecht and Amanda Kabel. Award recipient for grades 7-8 STB was Davin Jimeno.
These Hollis and Brookline students were 10 of more than 50,000 students worldwide who participated in this year’s CTY Talent Search. Because of the difficulty of the tests, only 25 to 30 percent of students who participated earned an invitation to a CTY’s Awards Ceremony where they are individually honored for their academic performance and potential.
New Hampshire’s 2011 Awards Ceremony was held at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester.
The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth draws students from 50 states, the District of Columbia, and some 120 countries and provided more than $5.5 million in financial aid to more than 11,000 students in 2010-11.
