New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra to presents Eroica Inspirations
The New Hampshire Philharmonic proudly presents Eroica Inspirations, an evening of transformative music that celebrates the power of themes and variations in life and art. This concert begins with Michael Torke’s Bright Blue Music, a vibrant and rhythmic composition that merges classical tradition with modern energy. Torke’s work sets a dynamic tone for the evening, engaging the audience with its rich textures and lively pace, highlighting his signature fusion of contemporary and classical influences.
Next, Sergei Rachmaninov’s Variations on a Theme by Paganini will highlight the extraordinary virtuosity of a solo pianist, as they navigate a captivating sequence of variations that range from delicate and haunting to brilliantly complex. The NH Phil will feature Steinway artist Taige Wang, performing Paganini’s famous theme. At just 14 years old, Taige Wang is a Young Steinway Artist and a scholar of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. He currently studies piano at The Juilliard School under the guidance of Yoheved Kaplinsky.
Taige started learning piano and gave his first public performance at the age of four. The next year, he performed live on China Central Television, and won his first competition at regional Steinway & Sons Competition. By the age of seven, he gave his first full solo recital by the invitation of Steinway & Sons.
Taige has had numerous piano competition wins to his name, including the YAMAHA Piano E Competition; Los Angeles International Liszt Competition; Chicago International Music Competition and Rosalyn Tureck International Bach Piano Competition.
The program culminates with one of the most revolutionary pieces in music history, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Eroica. A groundbreaking work that marked a turning point in the classical music world, Eroica is a monumental expression of heroism, idealism, and profound emotion. This symphony, originally dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte, exemplifies Beethoven’s innovative genius, pushing the boundaries of symphonic form and structure. Under the baton of Maestro Mark Latham, the NH Philharmonic will bring to life the expansive, dramatic movements, from the stirring Allegro con brio to the intimate and poignant variations of the final movement. Audiences will experience a musical journey that showcases Beethoven’s bold vision, celebrating both the heroism of the human spirit and the power of orchestral music.
