Wilton enjoys hot time at Winterest
WILTON – On Saturday, Feb. 10, a morning more like April than February, dozens of people gathered along Main Street and in the Riverview Mills for the annual Winterfest. The only thing missing was ice carving, not possible in 50 degree weather.
In Main Street Park, “Miss Boo,” (a.k.a. Children’s Librarian Bettielou Hills) children gathered around to join in their favorite songs, including “Puff The Magic Dragon.” In celebration of the Chinese Year of the Dragon, she read dragon stories such as “Dragons Love Tacos,”and explained how the Chinese years are named. Parents enthusiastically joined in.
Marshmallows were toasted over a fire pit for s’mores. Hot cocoa was provided by Main Street Association President Alison Melcher. She also reminded the parents that continuation of children’s programs at the library depends a great deal on a vote at Town Meeting for a sprinkler system in the lower level of the library.
At the Riverview Mills, artists and craftsmen filled the lower-level halls with a huge variety of offerings. A charming large four panel depiction of “The Seasons” filled a specie with other art as well as jewelry of all kinds, gadgets and clothing. Guitar music with an irresistible beat filled the air.
Winterfest began with crafts at the library and ended with a Chili Cook-off at the Collaborative Center.
