Amherst Lions Club Fire and Ice coming
Amherst Lions Club is looking for the best chili for its 8th Fire & Ice event, Friday, Feb 9, 5-7 p.m., at the Amherst Middle School.
Cooks wishing to enter their chili recipe (two-gallon minimum) for one year’s bragging rights should contact Joan Ferguson at amherstlionsclub@gmail.com for more details.
Deadline to register is Feb 5.
Winners of the People’s Choice Chili, Best Restaurant, Best Lions Club, and Best Culinary Arts Class chili receive bragging rights for one year as the best local chili and their name engraved on a traveling silver bowl.
At least three judges will be on hand to offer feedback to the chili entrants and will select the best individual, restaurant, Lions Club chili and – new this year – culinary arts entries. Confirmed judges are Chad Camirand (local chili connoisseur) and Dan DeCourcey, Up in Your Grill owner and
pitmaster.
The public may purchase tickets to the event by contacting any Amherst Lion or visiting www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/amherstnh.
Tickets are $10/adult, $6/children ages 7-12, and children under 6 and under are free. Families of four or more may purchase a ticket for $30. With each Fire & Ice ticket purchase, there is one free raffle ticket for a Napoleon Rogue propane grill donated by Lowe’s valued at nearly $800. The winner will be drawn at the event. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased for $5 each at the event or online.
Fire & Ice seeks to raise funds for local charities and offer an evening of family food and entertainment. In addition to chili, a ticket purchase includes a make-your-own ice cream sundae, hot dogs and drinks.
Free eye screenings for children will be available.
Amherst Middle School is located at 14 Cross Road.
