Cathy Cray 5K is set for July 16 at Congregational Church
Cathy Cray, a longtime Amherst resident, community activist and licensed critical mental health counselor, would no doubt approve of the road race being held in her honor.
The Cathy Cray 5K is set for July 16, starting at the Congregational Church of Amherst, 11 Church St., at 9 a.m. There is a $20 registration fee for those signing up before June 1, with a $25 fee from then until July 15. Race-day registration will be $30.
The first 225 entries will receive a race t-shirt.
Proceeds will benefit the White Ribbon Project, which promotes lung cancer awareness.
For those unable to participate in the run/walk on race day, there will be a virtual event with the same registration fees. Virtual participants will be given access to RaceJoy, a free GPS virtual tracking map.
All entrants can track their 5K run/walk, with virtual entrants able their race anywhere in the world. Results will automatically be update on the Cathy Cray 5K results page.
Running was one of her favorite activities.
Cray and her husband, Jerry, lived in Amherst for more than 35 years, raising their sons Ryan, Colin and Brendan.
She dedicated her career to helping adolescents, at Hollis Brookline High School and Saint Anselm College, and was active in Community Action for Safe Teens, serving Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Milford, Mont Vernon and Wilton.
The race is scheduled for one year and one day after Cray’s passing.
