New 6th through 12th grade charter school to open in Manchester

MANCHESTER – Kreiva Academy Public Charter School will be opening its doors in Manchester for the 2018-19 school year. Kreiva Academy, a grade 6-12 school, is set to open with 144 students, spanning all grades its first year.

Kreiva Academy Public Charter School was awarded a $150,000 private grant from the Barr Foundation in Boston.

The school was approved by the NH Board of Education in September 2017 by a unanimous vote.

Kreiva Academy blends New Hampshire’s competency-based systems of ‘learning anytime, anywhere’ with EL Education’s nationwide best practices for school culture.

The school currently is working with the NHCBE and its progressive plan led by Fred Bramante to have every student on the path to a certification or higher education by 2025; Kreiva Academy Public Charter School will begin next year with that standard for all students.

Founder and Director of Programs and Services Michelle Mathieu said, “We are so pleased to serve the diverse city of Manchester and the State of New Hampshire with a middle and high school that engages students in rigorous coursework that blends relevant topics of study with industry-focused innovation and civic-mindedness while also developing students as well-rounded individuals.”

Founder and Dean of Curriculum and Instruction Diane Creel said, “Students need clear benchmarks so they know where the bar is set; all of our students will be supported in working on concepts until they fully understand, as well as being moved to the next once they have mastered it. This way, students and teachers are held accountable.”

Kreiva Academy Public Charter School has found a home in Manchester’s city center, 470 Pine St., the former home of St. Joseph Regional Jr. High School. The building sat empty for seven years, and was purchased by Tom DeBlois to revitalize the community and bring life back to the old school site. He has invested more than $1 million in renovations to the building and is excited to see it return to a school.

Kreiva Academy Public Charter School will be hosting enrollment informations sessions for the upcoming school year throughout the Manchester area, and a general lottery will be on Jan. 24, 2018. Lottery applications are due Jan. 19.
